Central Florida Gathering – Mar 11-13, 2016
Hey Folks, it’s time to start planning for the Central Florida Gathering in March. We hope all who are interested can attend at least for a day if not the whole time. ALL ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND. ***This may be a nice break from winter for some of you to the north***. It will be a weekend (rustic) camping event (Fri & Sat night) or just show up during the day. If you are going to camp, the average temps for that time of year are ~75F during the day and ~55F at night, so bring appropriate clothing and sleeping gear. AND BRING INSECT REPELLANT. If you are not camping, there is a small entrance fee to drive into the park, I think $3 per vehicle, and park entrance hours are from 8am-5pm. Cost for camping is $4 per person per night.
Here is a run down of the campsite:
Park address: 3365 Taylor Creek Rd, Christmas, FL
The place is Tosohatchee Wildlife Management Area. It is in Christmas, FL (near Orlando) and is very remote. The WMA is over 30,000 acres and there are plenty of trails to hike or bike, lots of wildlife, and a fishing lake about 15 minutes on the other side of the park (license required). The WMA is also bordered by the St. Johns River about 15 min away. Very rustic camping, there is a vault toilet (it is like an outhouse but nicer) and there is a well pump on the horse camp, which is the site we’ve reserved this time because you can drive right up into it. Bring drinking water, the well water has some sediment in it but is suitable for heating and washing dishes or sponge bathing in. The site is enormous (about 3/4 the size of a football field) and there is lots of shade and we can just spread out in it. There is a Super Wal-mart about 20 min from the camp in one direction and a Publix grocery store about 15 min the other direction. There are also a couple of convenience stores in Christmas, about 7-10 minutes.
